Although I had no ills,
I started taking pills
To grow my heart to twice its size so I could love you more.
And then I thought it wise
To cut out both my eyes
So I could never look upon a face that wasn’t yours.
I next sealed up my lips,
And sliced my fingertips,
So I could not communicate and thus could not deceive you.
To make the job complete,
I sawed off both my feet
Preventing me from walking so that I could never leave you.
“I did this all for you,” I said.
“I love with endless vigor.”
You said, “But I could never love
A man who’s so disfigured.”
